Detroit Lions DJ expertly trolls Broncos QB Russell Wilson during warmups
The Lions DJ, DJRAYYADIG, spun Future records the entire time while the Broncos were warming up. Mr. Unlimited couldn’t have liked that.
Last night’s beatdown of the Denver Broncos, 42-17, might not have been the most savage thing the Detroit Lions did last night. That honor belongs to the Lions official DJ, DJRAYYADIG, who played records from Future—the Grammy-award winning rapper and father of Future Zahir Wilburn, the stepson of Russell Wilson—during pre-game warm-ups.
Prior to Saturday night’s game, DJRAYYADIG played a non-stop barrage of hits from Future, the former fiancé of Russell Wilson’s current wife, Ciara. As noted by MLive’s Kory E. Woods, the songs didn’t stop until the Broncos left the field from warm-ups.
Back in 2015, when Wilson and Ciara started dating, DJ DV One of the Seattle Seahawks commented on how Future’s growing popularity made it difficult to honor the requests of players on the team who wanted to hear his music during training camp.
“This year, I’ve been getting a lot of requests for Future,” DV One said back in September of 2015. “But that dynamic is weird too, because I can barely play Future with Ciara running around and that’s her baby’s dad. It’s just that he has a dope-ass album out right now, players like to hear it, it definitely gets you pumped up—even though it’s low-tempo, it’s still stuff that you want to hear—and then you’ve got Ciara running up with little baby Future and she’s dating Russell so it’s like, ‘Oh f—.’”
Future hasn’t been shy in sending shots at Wilson in his music, starting more subliminally with lines on the song “Rotation” from DS2 like, “Bitch, I’m getting the same money as Cam Newton, ask me how it feel to be a millionaire” in reference to Newton’s five-year, $103.8 million contract extension in June of the 2015 season while Wilson was still on his four-year, $2.99 million rookie contract—Wilson would sign his first big extension a couple weeks after DS2 was released. This past July, in a collaboration with fellow Atlanta-native rapper Quavo, Future dropped the subliminal approach to say, “I got it out the field, f— Russell” on the song “Turn Yo Clic Up.”
Wilson turned in one of his worst performances of the season against the Lions on Saturday, tying his season-low for completion percentage (56.3%), and committing a turnover on the Broncos opening drive when he was strip-sacked by Ifeatu Melifonwu.
