Elland Road. The expensive transfer of the central midfielder from Elland Road hasn’t worked out as expected thus far.

The sporting director was fired, the ownership of Leeds United changed, and a new manager was hired throughout the course of the summer.

Yannick Bolasie famously referred to Phillips as a “monster,” and throughout the years, he established himself as a mainstay in the Leeds midfield. In 2020, under Marcelo Bielsa, Phillips was a key factor in Leeds’ promotion back to the Premier League.

As the Whites went on to win the title and ended ten points ahead of West Bromwich Albion in the 2019–20 season, the brilliant ace averaged a fantastic Sofascore rating of 7.28 across 37 Championship games.

Only Pablo Hernandez (7.35) had a higher term-average Sofascore rating for the Whites than his performances in midfield, demonstrating that he was one of Bielsa’s star players on the path to promotion.
