Elland Road. The expensive transfer of the central midfielder from Elland Road hasn’t worked out as expected thus far.

The sporting director was fired, the ownership of Leeds United changed, and a new manager was hired throughout the course of the summer.

Prior to May of this year, when former owner Andrea Radrizzani and the Spaniard agreed to a mutual termination of his contract, Victor Orta oversaw the football operations.

The 44-year-old executive, who is currently playing for Sevilla in his native country, contributed to the club’s relegation to the Championship last season since his managerial appointments and signings failed to prevent the drop.

Yannick Bolasie famously referred to Phillips as a “monster,” and throughout the years, he established himself as a mainstay in the Leeds midfield. In 2020, under Marcelo Bielsa, Phillips was a key factor in Leeds’ promotion back to the Premier League.

As the Whites went on to win the title and ended ten points ahead of West Bromwich Albion in the 2019–20 season, the brilliant ace averaged a fantastic Sofascore rating of 7.28 across 37 Championship games.

Only Pablo Hernandez (7.35) had a higher term-average Sofascore rating for the Whites than his performances in midfield, demonstrating that he was one of Bielsa’s star players on the path to promotion.
