Ohio State commit James Peoples excited to end high school career at home in All-American Bowl
James Peoples discusses his All-American Bowl jersey presentation and commitment to Ohio State
Not many All-Americans get to play their last high school game at home, but James Peoples will. The All-American Bowl is played annually in San Antonio (Texas), and this year, James Peoples will get to take the field in front of friends and family.
The four-star San Antonio (Texas) Veterans Memorial running back is recognized as one of the best players in the nation. During the spring, Peoples committed to Ohio State over several other options. At 5-foot-10, 192 pounds, Peoples is ranked as the No. 4 running back in the nation and No. 20 overall prospect in Texas, according to 247Sports.
Peoples grew up watching this game, and the opportunity to finish his high school career before heading to Columbus. This week he was honored by receiving his game jersey in a ceremony at his school.
First off, glory be to God because ever since I was little, I dreamed about playing in this game,” Peoples said. “I had people I knew before me like friends and family who played in this game like Mark Jackson and Daniel Jackson who both played in this game. I went and watched them play, but I never thought I’d have the opportunity to get to that level knowing you have to be the best of the best to play in this game. It’s a true honor and a humbling experience to be able to play in this game, and I’m really excited to match up with guys who all have the potential I have to play in the NFL one day. It’s a huge honor and I’m grateful and really excited.”
Playing at home also gives Peoples a few extra days before he heads to college. The situation worked out well as he will be able to say goodbye to home before leaving for college.

“This is my home city, so it worked out well,” he said. “I don’t have to travel anywhere, I get to stay here. I’ll be going to Ohio State the next day after the game, so it works out well. I’ll have a little extra time here with family and friends. I just want to soak up all the time I have left and leave my staple here in San Antonio. It’s crazy how it worked out. I’m grateful for it.”
Ohio State cemented its foothold in the recruitment early and won Peoples over quickly. Since that time he shut down his recruitment and largely stayed off of social media. Peoples knew that he found the right place and there weren’t any other options to look at.
