Milwaukee Brewers Officially Add Another Pitcher to the Mix
The Milwaukee Brewers have been very active in the first two days of the Winter Meetings down in Nashville.
First, the team signed super prospect Jackson Chourio to an eight-year contract extension. Then, they re-signed veteran starting pitcher Wade Miley.

Now? They’ve added another veteran pitcher in Joe Ross.

It’s another move for the Brewers that could help cover the loss of Brandon Woodruff in 2024. Woodruff, the longtime stalwart of the rotation, injured his shoulder and is expected to miss the entire 2024 season. The team non-tendered him as a result.
As for Ross, he’s now 30 years old with a significant injury history. He did not pitch in the COVID 2020 season and then underwent Tommy John surgery in 2022. He made it back to pitch in minor league games in 2023, but hasn’t appeared in a major league game since 2021.
A veteran of six seasons, all with the Washington Nationals, he’s 26-28 lifetime with a 4.26 ERA. He has served primarily as a starter, so the Brewers will likely give him a chance to earn a spot in the rotation.
In addition to the Woodruff situation, the team could also be looking to trade former Cy Young winner Corbin Burnes this offseason. While Ross would hardly be a substitute for Burnes, it’s good to have experienced starters on deck.
The Brewers won the National League Central in 2023 but were beaten in the wild card round of the playoffs by the Diamondbacks.
