Baltimore Orioles Make Major Changes to Coaching Staff

The Baltimore Orioles have made two major changes to their coaching staff

Ken Rosenthal of Te Athletic rw

“The Orioles drew well-deserved praise for keeping manager Brandon Hyde not only through their rebuild, but once they became a contender. They took a different approach, however, with pitching coach Chris Holt and assistant pitching coach Darren Holmes, neither of whom will return to Hyde’s staff next season.”

Rosenthal adds that the Orioles didn’t invite Holmes back and Holt will continue as director of pitching. The organization is now interviewing for a new Major League pitching and assistant pitching coach.

While the Orioles certainly had some struggles on the mound at times, there were some success stories. Kyle Bradish, Grayson Rodriguez, and others were much better after the All-Star break. The bullpen was decent, featuring a top-of-the-line closer in Felix Bautista. However, there were too many back-of-the-end arms that simply weren’t good enough for the Orioles in 2023.

Reports indicate that Baltimore wants someone who can come in and provide different messaging to all of their young talented arms.

With a huge offseason coming up for a young and upcoming team, this is an interesting move. It was clear that Baltimore needed to make some moves on the mound, but it’s questionable if they needed to change the coaching staff.

The Orioles will be in conversations for all of the top free agents and tradeable pitchers this offseason. That was the one thing this club missed last season and it was obvious during the postseason.
