Sunderland now have a great relationship with PL giant, they could be in-line for ‘incredible’ loan
Sunderland are ready to reignite their interest in Amad Diallo.
That’s according to iNews, who have claimed that the Black Cats are keen to bring him back to Wearside on loan in the January transfer window.
Amad joined Manchester United in a deal rising to €40 million (£35m) in 2020, however he failed to meet the high expectations that were placed on him with the hefty price tag.
After struggling to make an impact on the senior team and enduring a disappointing loan spell with Rangers, the Ivorian spent last season with Sunderland.
Despite a slow start, Amad quickly became one of the Black Cats’ greatest ever loan signings as he scored 14 goals in the Championship to earn the award for their Young Player of the Year and the PFA Championship Fans’ Player of the Year.
Amad’s excellent campaign quickly attracted interest from a number of clubs including Sunderland, but it was unclear whether Manchester United would look to send him back out on loan or would cash in.
However, before Tony Mowbray’s side were able to make an attempt at bringing him back to Wearside, the ‘incredible’ 21-year-old suffered an injury in pre-season and ended any hopes of returning to the club in the summer.
Amad Diallo could take Sunderland to the Premier League
Various reports claimed Amad Diallo wanted to rejoin Sunderland if he wasn’t going to pick up game time with the Red Devils, while the Championship club could now take advantage of their relationship with United and Amad to reunite with him in January.
While Jack Clarke has brought the goals this season, Sunderland never really replaced Amad once he returned to Manchester. Bradley Dack was brought in but has so far struggled with fitness and will be far from the quality that Amad provided.
Sunderland’s chances of promotion will increase dramatically if they can bring their former loanee back, though it could depend on United’s squad depth due to off-pitch situations with Antony and Jadon Sancho.
