On Sunday afternoon, Exeter City Women will host Moneyfields at St James Park in a thrilling National League matchup.

The Hampshire team has had a successful start to the season, winning four games and advancing in the League Cup with a win over Queens Park Rangers on penalties. The Moneys are tied with the Grecians on nine points after securing easy victories in league play over Torquay United, Portishead Town, and Selsey. Charley Wilson-Wilton and Chelsie Hay are leading the pace for Karl Watson’s team with six goals each after victories by significant margins.

Watson’s team, which placed a respectable third in the standings last season, has made moves to bolster its ranks over the summer. While Kiera Heslam joins following previous stints with Huddersfield and Southampton Womens FC, Tash Wild and Amber Howden signed from Selsey.

Last season, the two teams played each other in competitive matches. In Hampshire, a goal by Becky Dandridge secured the team a hard-fought point, while City’s performance at the Hub resulted in a thrilling 5-2 victory.

Four teams already stand out significantly above the rest in the South West Division this year, giving the division a starkly divided appearance. While this game will once again give Exeter a chance to showcase women’s soccer, winning three points will be crucial because Moneyfields will undoubtedly be competing with the Grecians for the championship this year.

The team of Abbie Britton and Aaron Wakley enters the match in fine form, and the City management has a strong squad to pick from thanks to the return of Zoe Cunningham and Beth Ireland. This matchup between two of the strongest teams in the division at St James Park in front of a sizable crowd is one that shouldn’t be missed.
