The appointment of the new manager and two free agents to fill out the roster has been formally announced by Sheffield Wednesday as “basically done.”

Essentially done’: Sheffield Wednesday could announce new manager today – Journalist

BBC Radio Sheffield journalist Rob Staton has made an exciting announcement as Sheffield Wednesday near the appointment of Danny Rohl.

The German manager has been linked with the Owls after Xisco Munoz was sacked over a week ago. Now, it would appear that Wednesday are close to naming their next incumbent.

Rohl has never worked as a manager on his own accord and he will be entering the unknown in the Championship. His last job came as assistant manager to Hansi Flick with the German national team.

Wednesday now close to Rohl appointment

Staton has made a claim late last night and it should delight the Wednesday fan base. He’s taken to Twitter to suggest that things are moving very quickly.

He said: “Per source, understand confirmation on Danny Rohl’s appointment as Sheffield Wednesday boss now close. Deal essentially done.”

ednesday could now make the announcement as early as today. The Owls face Watford after the international break and it seems like Rohl will be the man in the dugout.

What will Rohl bring to Hillsborough?

At this stage, it’s difficult to know. Given that he’s never managed a team of his own, it’s almost impossible to know what sort of system the new man will want to deploy.

He does have some knowledge of working in England, however, having assisted Ralph Hasenhuttl for a season at Southampton.

Despite his inexperience, this could be a very useful appointment for Wednesday. Rohl should bring some modern-day ideas to his coaching and that can only bode well for the Owls.

At 34-years-old, Rohl is viewed as a burgeoning coach with lots of potential. Wednesday were dead right to get ride of Munoz earlier this month and now the German will hope to get the Owls firing up the Championship.
