Leeds United loanee Jack Harrison has been praised for his performance on his Everton debut on Wednesday night.
The Liverpool Echo handed Harrison a 7/10 rating for his display as Everton defeated Aston Villa 2-1 at Villa Park to progress to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.
Harrison was making his first competitive senior appearance since his last outing for Leeds back in May, when he scored in a 4-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur as the Whites were relegated.
Up until last night, Harrison had not been able to showcase his ability in an Everton shirt but after appearing for the U21s on Friday, was thrown into the starting XI last night.
Leeds loanee Harrison praised for Everton debut
Writing in their post-match player ratings piece, the Liverpool Echo praised Harrison for an ‘encouraging debut’, which included some ‘smart touches’.
“Harrison – 7/10. Encouraging debut some six weeks after signing, he operated on the right but was more tucked in with the wing-backs behind him and produced some smart touches, including picking out Calvert-Lewin for his big double chance in the first half.”
Everton do not have an option-to-buy Harrison at the end of his loan spell but as per David Ornstein, they will look to make it permanent in due course.
If he continues to produce performances such as this one, you would imagine they will not take too long to try strike some sort of agreement with Leeds.
It is not a surprise to hear that he had some promising touches, with his first touch undoubtedly his best attribute, but whether he can perform on a consistent basis – which was often his problem at Leeds – remains to be seen.
