‘In three months he can run’ – Doctor explains timeline for injured Spurs star’s return

Croatian team doctor Sasa Jankovic has said that Ivan Perisic cannot run for at least another three months and that it will take much longer for him to be integrated into team training.

Although Perisic had not started a Premier League game under Ange Postecoglou, the Australian was relying on the Croat to make an impact off the bench in the first few games of the season.

It thus came as a blow to Tottenham when the 34-year-old picked up an ACL injury last week, with reports indicating he is expected to be out of action for six months (Fabrizio Romano).

Some journalists have expressed doubt over whether Perisic will kick a ball again for Spurs, given that his contract with the North London club runs out next summer (GiveMeSport).

When will Ivan Perisic play football again?

The experienced wide-man faces a race against time to be fully match-fit in time for the European Championship next summer as he remains an important part of Croatia’s set-up.

The national side’s doctor has now admitted that it would take a long time for the Spurs man to be integrated into training.

Jankovic told Gol.hr (as translated by Sport Witness): “50% is operation, 50% is rehabilitation process. He can rely on his leg in that first phase. In three to four weeks, he can ride a bike, in three months he can run. The problem is that contact with another player is not possible for a long time.”

Ivan Perisic

Perisic is one of the most dedicated professionals in the game and he will do everything necessary to speed up his recovery. So, I would not put it beyond him to return ahead of schedule, even though he will be 35 years of age in a few months.
