INTERVIEW | James Jones on signing his contract extension
The midfielder signs a new deal until the end of the 2024/25 season
James Jones explained he was thrilled to sign a new deal with the Club, as he extended his stay at the STōK Cae Ras until the summer of 2025.
Jones, 27, was Phil Parkinson’s seventh Wrexham signing, as he joined the Red Dragons on August 24, 2021.
He arrived with an EFL promotion under his belt at Crewe Alexandra, and the focus of helping the Club return there from the National League.
After a record-breaking, title-winning campaign, he has played an integral role so far in Sky Bet League Two.
Speaking about his new deal, he said: I’m delighted to have signed. It’s a special Club to be at and I’ve enjoyed my time here.
“I’m pleased to get this done and I’m looking forward to pushing for another promotion.”
As one of the first players to join the project in the 2021/22 season, Jones like many had vast EFL experience before dropping to the National League.
He featured for Lincoln City in Sky Bet League One, after signing from his boyhood club Crewe.
In his third season at the STōK Cae Ras, Jones described how much the Club has developed both on and off the pitch.
“Since I’ve signed so many things have changed, and everything is going in the right direction.
“When I came, I knew that was the aim and the ambition and to see it happen and be a part of some special moments in the Club’s history is fantastic.
“I want to keep being a part of it and help the Club keep moving forward.”
The midfielder has been instrumental in plenty of key moments during his first two full campaigns with the Club.
In his first, he scored the winner in our FA Trophy Quarter Final against Notts County, setting up a clash with Stockport County in the Semi Final.
Last season, he got the equaliser in our barnstorming 3-3 draw in the Emirates FA Cup Fourth Round tie against Sheffield United.
However, despite some memorable personal milestones for the Club, there was only one moment that crossed his mind when he reflected on his journey.
He said: “It’s got to be winning promotion. Days like that don’t come down very often and everything that goes hand in hand with that is so special.
“What it meant to us, what it meant to the community and the fans has got to be up there because there’s no better feeling than that.
“Everywhere you go people have Wrexham shirts and caps on. That energy and passion feeds into the group; if we do well on the pitch, it makes them all happy too.
“The passion they have is second to none and I’m enjoying my time here.”
Now a quarter of the way through the league campaign, the Red Dragons sit seventh in the table on 20 points.
However, that also puts Parkinson’s men four points off the top in what has been a tightly contested division so far.
That period has not been short of drama and JJ added that they are all focused on building on recent results.
He said: “Nothing is guaranteed, there’s no shortcuts and we all know we have to keep working hard.
“We have to put in the hard yards and keep doing the right things. Everything is set up for us and it’s our job as players to go out and do it.
“Fingers crossed we can keep making more of these special moments for the supporters.”
