Nottingham Forest owner Marinakis whisks manager Steve Cooper off to Greece as reward for team results | The Sun

Player sold by Nottingham Forest in July scored two goals in important victory last night

Nottingham Forest allowed Sam Surridge to leave the club permanently in August and last night he was in the goals. Nashville defeated New England 3-2, with the talented striker notching an impressive brace.

Surridge was a popular figure during his time at the City Ground. He was instrumental as the Reds won promotion during 2021/22, scoring eight goals in the Championship.

The 25-year-old was a respected character in the dressing room at Forest but he found regular football hard to come by. He did net a Premier League goal last season, scoring in a 1-1 draw against Bournemouth.

Surridge scores twice for Nashville

The man that Forest chose to sell is loving life in the USA. He’s played 12 games for the club, scoring five goals and claiming two assists for his new employers.

Last night, he was in fine form as Nashville secured a sold victory against New England. One of his goals saw him sweep a wonderful finish into the corner of the net with his sidefoot.

Surridge became accustomed to scoring goals in that manner at Forest. He delighted fans with some wonderful finishing and his hat-trick in a 5-1 win over Swansea will live long in the memory

Forest were right to offload Surridge when they did

It’s always a shame to lose players who give everything whenever they take to the pitch. Still, Surridge didn’t look to be overly reliable to start games in the Premier League, with Steve Cooper favouring other options.

Letting Surridge go was a must from a Forest perspective. They needed to get players off the books and ultimately, he would now be behind Taiwo Awoniyi, Chris Wood and Divock Origi in the pecking order.

Still, Surridge deserves well wishes based on his time at Forest. It’s great to see him banging the goals in and Nashville have secured a real coup by landing Surridge from Forest.
