West Ham could give Man Utd a helping hand once £105m Declan Rice sold to Arsenal

West Ham could do Manchester United a huge favour by spending part of the Declan Rice fee on his England team-mate Harry Maguire. The Hammers have been strongly linked with Maguire this summer and the defender faces a hugely uncertain future.

Maguire struggled for game time at Old Trafford last season, playing in just 16 Premier League games after falling out of favour under Erik ten Hag. Now, the United captain could leave the club over the coming weeks.

He has been linked with Tottenham but the North Londoners would not be able to offer European football. At West Ham, though, Maguire would likely be a key player in a Europa League team next term.

West Ham are set to reinvest heavily this summer after winning the Conference League and selling Rice for upwards of £100million. Arsenal are reportedly closing in on a deal for the Three Lions midfielder, which could reach £105m once certain clauses are met.

David Moyes could do with defensive reinforcements having seen his side ship 55 Premier League goals last season. Maguire would be an upgrade on the likes of Kurt Zouma, Nayef Aguerd and Thilo Kehrer.

According to the Daily Mail, Maguire is not particularly keen on a move to West Ham. A competitive and driven personality, the former Leicester star still wants to prove himself with the Red Devils and regain his place from either Raphael Varane or Lisandro Martinez.

But with Euro 2024 looming and Gareth Southgate confirming that Maguire’s England place is not certain, the 30-year-old could be tempted into joining the East Londoners this summer.

United are believed to want in the region of £40m for Maguire. West Ham would be doing the Red Devils a monumental favour by parting with a fee of the amount.

it has been reported that United have a transfer budget of around £120m for this summer, and any additional costs will need to be funded via player sales. A deal for Chelsea’s Mason Mount is set to slash that warchest in half, costing the Old Trafford hierarchy £60m.

So a £40m cash injection from West Ham in any Maguire deal would go a long way in helping United sign their targets. Ten Hag’s transfer business is currently being limited by the budget, with at least another forward and a defender supposedly wanted

West Ham signing Maguire is a move that would be beneficial to all parties – allowing the defender to play regular football again, while United’s funds are given a boost. David Moyes must convince the centre-back that his future lies at the London Stadium.
