Potential Seamus Coleman fitness boost and four other things spotted from Everton’s Goodison Park training session

Pictures from Everton’s training session at Goodison Park this week provide an indication of a potential fitness boost for manager Sean Dyche with captain Seamus Coleman on the ball alongside his team-mates.

The Republic of Ireland international hasn’t featured since undergoing knee surgery in May after being stretchered off in Everton’s 2-2 draw at Leicester City but photographs taken from Wednesday’s session at the Blues home ground – the same day that Coleman laid a wreath in memory of chairman Bill Kenwright in front of the Dixie Dean statue alongside Dyche – show the right-back taking part in ball work alongside his colleagues both in a training game and drills. The 35-year-old has made 352 Premier League appearances for Everton and only needs to feature in three more games to overhaul his former team-mate USA international goalkeeper Tim Howard.

Paying tribute this week to Kenwright, whose death aged 78 was announced on Tuesday, Coleman said: “Bill Kenwright was more than a chairman to me. He was a friend. The way he treated me and my family when I first came to the club from Ireland was incredible.

“It meant the world to us and was a massive part of me settling in and having a career with Everton. And I know that I am far from being the only player to be able to say that.

“The chairman never interfered and very rarely visited the dressing room, but we all knew that he was there if we needed him. And when he did speak to us as a group, we listened because he knew our club as well as anyone.

“He was inspirational, he was so kind, he loved Everton, and his presence will be sorely missed. My thoughts, and those of my family, are with Jenny and the rest of his family at this very, very sad time.”
