Wrexham duo now walking suspension tightrope as potential ban looms ahead of Exeter City clash
Phil Parkinson needs two players to be on their best behaviour when Wrexham take on Exeter City.
Wrexham go into the meeting with Exeter already without some key names available.
George Evans and Jack Marriott are both long-term absentees, while Steven Fletcher and Jamies Jones are also sidelined.
Parkinson provided a positive Wrexham injury update ahead of Exeter but said players are all still expected to miss out this weekend.
It is not just injuries that are set to deplete the Red Dragons’ ranks this weekend, however.
Andy Cannon has once again been a key figure in the centre of Wrexham’s midfield in the 2024/25 campaign.
He has featured in all but one of the club’s 15 league fixtures this term – missing out versus Shrewsbury Town due to injury.
But after picking up his fifth yellow card of the campaign against Stockport County, he is now suspended for the Exeter meeting.
James McClean and George Dobson nearing Wrexham suspension
While Cannon is already suspended, two more Wrexham stars now risk a ban in the coming weeks.
George Dobson has been on four bookings for over a month now while James McClean recently picked up his fourth yellow of the season.
As a result, both players will be suspended if they are shown a yellow card versus Exeter on November 23rd.
After the weekend, Wrexham travel to fellow play-off hopefuls Lincoln City next Tuesday – a tie Parkinson will not be happy with either player missing.
Wrexham suspension headache may cause Phil Parkinson rethink
With an away fixture against Lincoln, on paper, tougher than Saturday’s clash, Parkinson may opt to rest the aforementioned duo this weekend.
Sebastian Revan was signed from Aston Villa over the summer and could cover McClean at left-wing-back versus Exeter.
But his form has been mixed, with the full-back still yet to win a league game when starting for Wrexham.
As for Dobson, he is unlikely to be rested on Saturday with Cannon already out, but free-agent addition Matty James could come into the side on Tuesday if the former is suspended.
