Dodgers Free Agent Teoscar Hernandez Being Pursued by AL East Squad

Could Los Angeles Dodgers free agent outfielder Teoscar Hernández return to the American League East this offseason? The Boston Red Sox are reportedly one of the teams interested in New York Yankees star Juan Soto, but Jon Morosi of MLB Network believes that if Soto signs with either the Yankees or Mets, the Red Sox could go after Hernández.

“If Juan Soto goes somewhere else … get ready to listen to a lot of conversation about Teoscar and the Boston Red Sox,” Morosi said on MLB Network.

Morosi called the Red Sox and the Dodgers the most likely teams to sign Hernández, but also threw in the Baltimore Orioles as a possibility. Hernández previously played in the AL East when he was a part of the Toronto Blue Jays from 2017-22.

Hernández is currently a free agent after he bet on himself last January by signing a one-year, $23 million contract with the Dodgers instead of a multi-year contract. He has expressed on multiple occasions during and after the 2024 season that he wants to remain with the Dodgers, possibly for the long-term.

“My hopes are really high,” Hernández previously said of re-signing with the Dodgers. “Like I’ve said before, the Dodgers are the priority obviously. I’m going to do everything in my power to come back.”

Dodgers general manager Brandon Gomes said at the MLB GM Meetings that the team planned to have conversations with Hernández and his representation as soon as possible.

If the Dodgers and Hernández do not agree on an extension, there should be plenty of teams interested in bringing in Hernández. The 32-year-old is coming off a career-year in which he hit a career-high 33 home runs and helped the Dodgers win the World Series. Hernández slashed .272/.339/.501 with 33 home runs and 99 RBIs, and added three home runs and 12 RBIs in the postseason. He gave the Dodgers arguably the best top-four of a lineup in baseball, and became a beloved member of the team.
