Coventry City will continue to be without leading scorer Haji Wright for at least two more matches, revealed interim boss Rhys Carr after the striker has had scans on his right ankle.

The USA international went over on his ankle in the latter stages of the 2-2 draw at Sunderland before the two week break, forcing him to pull out of his scheduled duty with his country. He was still not fit two weeks on when the Sky Blues entertained Sheffield United at the CBS Arena, again playing out a four goal stalemate.

Asked for an update on Wright’s condition, Carr told CoventryLive: “He’s a had a scan and assessments on that so it will be a little bit of time to get him ready. I said I didn’t want to put a time frame on it because I don’t want to put too much pressure on him.

“He’s a top player here and we all want him fit. The medical team are working with him but I think the next couple of games will be too much of a stretch for him.”

City are at fourth placed Burnley tonight before being back on home soil on Saturday when they host fourth from bottom Cardiff City. That means the trip to Millwall on December 7 is the earliest Wright could be available again.

Elsewhere, Jay Dasilva is expected to have recovered from the weekend when he went off with cramp, replaced by Jake Bidwell for the final few minutes against the Blades. Bidwell and midfielder Jamie Allen both made a welcome return to the matchday squad after several weeks out with knee ligament strains, although it may be too soon for them to start on Tuesday night, particularly given how long they have been out – eight weeks in Allen’s case

It’s been seven weeks for Bidwell, but Carr said: “He’s a machine, the way he looks after himself, he’s an absolute monster. He’s been desperate to get back on the pitch and contribute, and that’s what you want. Bidders didn’t get too much of a warm up but it was pleasing to see him come back and get some minutes.”
