Mason Burstow has given an insight into what life was like under former head coach Tim Walter behind the scenes at Hull City.

Inside story of Tim Walter’s Hull City exit, flawed philosophy and job doomed from the start
City are looking for a new manager after the German head coach was put out of his misery
It was a relationship that was doomed to fail from the start and so it should come as little surprise that Tim Walter and Hull City’s dalliance has finally come to an end after 149 days.
The final straw for Acun Ilicali came on Tuesday night when he sat inside the chairman’s lounge and watched on in disbelief at what Walter’s side had served up against Sheffield Wednesday, which drew a toxic response from the majority of the home supporters inside the MKM Stadium, and that was the moment he knew he had to act.
Chants of ‘We want Walter out’ and ‘Acun, Acun sort it out’ – amongst others – provided the soundtrack to a night where it all came crumbling down for Walter, who stood alone with his thoughts inside the technical area, arms locked together, as the stadium made it clear he wasn’t wanted. His philosophy in tatters, and a group of players who were beaten into submission by it’s lack of organisation, and ability to do the basics well, left bewildered.
Ilicali was aware of the strength of feeling from the fans, and knew players had strong reservations, but remained loyal to his manager until he witness the response on Tuesday, and knew it had gone past the point of no return. Walter’s touching embrace with his family seconds after the final whistle proved particularly poignant.
Rarely in recent history has a manager and his fans held such contempt for each other and the fact it’s got to this stage is the biggest surprise, because, in truth, Walter should have been put out of his misery a long, long time ago. Some will say he was the wrong appointment from the start, and that may well be the case.
His ‘philosophy’ was flawed and doomed to failure from the outset. It lacked detail and without going all scientific, it couldn’t score goals and at the other end, one clean sheet in 17 league games tells a very clear story. Championship managers were relishing playing City, and while there were comments about their undoubted quality, so many found it easy to take them to pieces.
