The Milwaukee Brewers could be in for a cold, harsh winter. They experienced quite a heartbreaking end to their 2024 season and now they’re left to watch top talent, Willy Adames, head into free agency with a near-zero percent chance of re-signing him.

Adames would typically be worth a contract in the $140 million to $160 million range, but given the scarcity of talented infielders in free agency, Adames could land a deal worth nearly $200 million. Jon Heyman of the New York Post recently projected Adames to land a deal worth nearly $200 million.

Heyman also made note of three teams, the Los Angeles Dodgers, the San Francisco Giants, and the Atlanta Braves, who were aggressively pursuing Adames in trades during the 2024 season. “The athletic shortstop will be shooting for $200 (million)-plus. The Dodgers, Giants, and Braves were among the pursuers in trade discussions,” Heyman wrote. “Willingness to move to (third base) could aid his market. $180 (million), 7 years.”

Besides the three teams that tried to trade for Adames, the New York Mets also make sense as a potential suitor, with a move to third base being imminent if New York lands him.

The Dodgers were seen as the favorites to land the superstar infielder, but after Los Angeles signed Blake Snell and extended Tommy Edman, it’s hard to imagine that Adames will be headed to the Dodgers as well.

This doesn’t rule out the idea of him heading to the National League West as a member of the Giants though. San Francisco needs to upgrade its shortstop position and Adames is the clear top option. Either way, Heyman’s estimate of seven years, $180 million seems to be spot on.

This number will likely end up being very close to the deal that the Brewers infielder signs this winter and it won’t be with Milwaukee.
