Kasey Palmer offers Mark Robins verdict amid Hull City manager interest

The ex-Sky Blues chief is one of the fans’ favourite candidates to take over at the Championship strugglers

Kasey Palmer would welcome the appointment of his former Coventry City manager Mark Robins at Hull City, if the ex-Manchester United striker replaced Tim Walter.

Robins is on City’s shortlist of managers owner Acun Ilicali is thought to be considering to take over from the German, who was sacked last Wednesday after a dismal start to the new Championship season.

The 54-year-old from Ashton-under-Lyne near Manchester has been out of work since he was surprisingly sacked by the Sky Blues last month, with the Midlands outfit bringing in Frank Lampard as his replacement.

Palmer and Robins know each other well from their time together at the CBS Arena, which began in June 2022 when Robins signed him from Bristol City. Palmer went on to play in the Championship play-off final and the FA Cup final under the former Scunthorpe United boss.

Despite Robins having plenty to say following Palmer’s move to the MKM Stadium on deadline day back in August, the Tigers’ Jamaican international would have no qualms about playing under him again if he arrives at City in the coming days.

“He’s good; I think his CV kind of talks for itself and what he achieved and what he’s done at Coventry; I don’t think many people would have expected it when he first came in to have achieved what he did. He achieved great things there,” the creative playmaker told Hull Live.

“If that’s the direction the club goes in, I’d be happy to work with him again. I’m not going to say I won’t be happy because he was good with me; we had a good relationship, and we still have a good relationship. Whatever the owner chooses to do, we’ll see. I didn’t think I was going to work with him again so quickly, but if it does happen, then yes, I won’t be complaining because we got on well.”
