Burnley and Frank Lampard’s Coventry ‘pushing’ to sign player Jesse Marsch wanted at Leeds United
Daniel Farke has already confirmed Leeds United are in for a quiet January transfer window but watching on as others strengthen could be a mistake.
Leeds currently sit third in the Championship and already look like they could be in for another promotion race that goes to the wire as Sheffield United and Burnley continue to win.
Burnley have conceded just six goals all season and their ability to prevent sides from scoring have made them incredibly difficult to beat.
Incidentally, Leeds actually sit on the exact same number of points after 18 matches as this time last season, but thankfully no one has been able to pull away like Leicester City or Ipswich Town.
January proved incredibly important for Ipswich to get themselves over the line in second ahead of Leeds and hopefully there won’t be a repeat of those mistakes.

Burnley and Coventry eyeing Kai Wagner
Despite Burnley boasting such a superb defensive record, they are actually looking to strengthen their options at the back in January.
According to Florian Plettenberg, they are already ‘pushing’ to sign Philadelphia Union left-back Kai Wagner, but are set to face competition from Coventry City.
Coventry have just been taken over by Frank Lampard and after losing his first game at home to Cardiff City, it wouldn’t be a surprise if they were busy in January.
The Sky Blues have been in and around the play-offs for each of the last two seasons but will need a big second half of the campaign to get close to that again.
Wagner is out of contract at Philadelphia in 2026 but has a release clause of just £1.7 million, making him a potential bargain for interested clubs.
With one goal and 12 assists, Wagner has enjoyed an impressive season in MLS, and clubs from Italy, Spain and Germany are also keen.

Leeds wanted Wagner under Jesse Marsch
Left-back isn’t one of the positions that will need strengthening in January at Elland Road but once upon a time in the Premier League, it really was.
Junior Firpo was struggling for both form and fitness and Leeds didn’t really have any natural cover for him. Somehow, they still opted against signing an alternative.
However, Wagner was someone heavily linked with Leeds for more than one window, though a move never materialised.
If he does come to the Championship, it will be interesting to see what sort of player Leeds really missed out on.
