Tim Sherwood has slated Julen Lopetegui for getting it “all wrong” in the 3-1 defeat against Leicester City on Tuesday – a comment no West Ham United fan can truly disagree with.
The Hammers suffered their seventh defeat of the season, going three down at the King Power Stadium on 3 December before a late Niclas Fullkrug consolation.
Despite having 29 shots on goal, Sherwood was critical of the Irons’ game plan live on Sky Sports News (3 November).
He said: “They are playing as if they have just been thrown on the pitch and wherever they land is where they play. There is absolutely no structure to their play.
“The manager has got it all wrong. There are more questions than answers for Lopetegui. He has had a bad night.”
West Ham must sack Julen Lopetegui after Leicester City defeat
The Hammers had the majority of the ball and the better of the chances but just could not make them count on the night.
Even with the firepower of Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus before the introduction of Lucas Paqueta and Crysencio Summerville, the Irons couldn’t breach Mads Hermansen’s goal before it was too little too late.
This will send Lopetegui back to the London Stadium fearful of his job safety and Sherwood’s comments won’t make him feel any more content.
On another day, his side come away with all three points after a positive attacking display on the whole, but you just can not defend like his side did in the Premier League and expect to win.
