Hull City have been granted permission by Reading to speak to manager Ruben Selles, according to The Athletic.
Hull City have started this campaign awfully, sitting in the relegation zone after 18 games and 15 points off the play-off places.
Following the poor start, the Tigers sacked Tim Walter just four months into his tenure. Walter was appointed after Liam Rosenior was relieved of his duties to the surprise of many. Walter failed to have the desired impact with the club and saw fans turn very quickly.
However, it seems a replacement for Walter is close to being named.
Around a week after his sacking, movement is being made by Hull City with the club being granted permission to speak to Reading manager Ruben Selles, according to The Athletic.
Selles is the club’s number one target as he has impressed during the early days of his managerial career.
Despite the ongoing chaos at Reading, Selles has the club fighting for the play-offs and are playing an attractive and
of football. This style is a big factor for Hull City owner Acun Ilcali, with the reason for Rosenior’s sacking being due to his football.
Premier League experience
Ilcali has big plans for Hull City with the long-term aim being Premier League football. Recent actions have shown those goals are a long way away from being reached though.
He was Southampton’s interim head coach twice in the 2022/23 season. Across two spells he won three games and drew four with a very poor Saints side. That experience has clearly helped him in his career as he has gone on to be a huge success with Reading.
What next for Hull City?
It remains to be seen just how talks between Hull City and Selles pan out, but it seems unlikely that a new boss will be in place in time to face Blackburn Rovers this weekend.
