Georgia transfer CB Julian Humphrey interested in Texas
According to On3, former Georgia Bulldogs redshirt sophomore transfer cornerback Julian Humphrey is expected to show interest in Texas football once the portal officially opens on Dec. 9.
Could Texas football find CB help in the portal next offseason from Georgia transfer Julian Humphrey?
On3’s Steve Wiltfong mentioned Texas among five schools that are expected to be in contention for Humphrey in the portal during the winter transfer window. The other four schools are the Texas A&M Aggies, Oregon Ducks, Alabama Crimson Tide, and Miami Hurricanes.
This season, Humphrey was a significant contributor to Georgia’s secondary. He started 10 of the 11 games he played for head coach Kirby Smart and the Dawgs this fall, registering 10 combined tackles, four pass breakups, and three defensive stops.
He had a productive game in his start for Georgia’s secondary in the Dawgs’ win over the Longhorns in the regular season in mid-October. Humphrey had a tackle and a season-high two pass breakups against Texas a couple of months ago in Austin.
Texas does have some relevant connections for this portal recruitment for Humphrey when the transfer market opens early next week.
First, Humphrey Hails from right down the highway in the Houston-area. It makes sense that he’s expected to show interest in two big in-state schools, like Texas and Texas A&M in the portal next offseason.
While Texas didn’t offer Humphrey as a four-star recruit from Houston (TX) Clear Lake High School in the 2022 class, UT co-defensive coordinator and defensive play-caller Pete Kwiatkowski did offer him while he was on staff in the fall of 2020 at Washington.
Humphrey is reportedly expected to be one of the most highly sought-after portal cornerbacks on the transfer market during the winter window later this month. He’s currently rated as the No. 1 transfer cornerback in the 247Sports Composite.
