Northern Lights College launches first annual Giving Day campaign
FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Northern Lights College (NLC) is looking to raise money to support student wellness through its new Giving Day campaign.
The campaign, announced on Friday, November 1st, ensures that every student has the resources to thrive academically and personally, as well as food security and physical fitness.
“After speaking with our students, we know many are hoping for assistance with food security, as well as maintaining their physical wellbeing,” says NLC Foundation Communication and Events Specialist Kayla Von Bargensaid Bargen.
According to the NLC announcement, Giving Day is an annual global movement encouraging people to give back to their communities and support nonprofits.
“Giving Tuesday is a wonderful opportunity to donate time, resources, or money to causes you care about,” said the announcement.
Starting on November 4th, people can participate throughout the month by buying 50/50 tickets, ordering treats made by culinary students, or donating directly.
“Your contributions will directly fund initiatives that promote food security, mental health, physical fitness, and overall well-being, along with monetary awards,” says Lisa Ward, NLC Foundation Chair.
The college has a $10,000 fundraising goal.
The initiative will be implemented on several campuses, including Fort St. John, Dawson Creek, Chetwynd, Fort Nelson, Atlin, Dease Lake, and Tumbler Ridge.
Several businesses in Fort St. John, such as Denny’s, Canadian Brewhouse, Mr. Mikes, and Just Jack’s, are also contributing as community partners to the Giving Day campaign.
“Together, we can make a meaningful difference in our students’ lives! Let’s all help uplift the future,” said Ward.
The campaign will run until Giving Tuesday on December 3rd.
