Newcastle United star banned for Brentford game as Eddie Howe deals with two suspensions
The Magpies will be without two of their midfield engine room in the next couple of games
Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe will be dealing with two suspensions this week with the bans set to interrupt his selection plans in the coming days.
Howe is without Sean Longstaff tomorrow after the North Shields midfielder reached the limit on cautions in the Carabao Cup. And United must also face up to life without Joelinton at Ipswich Town at the weekend after he reached the five-card tipping point in the Premier League.
It means that Brazil star Joelinton is a strong contender to start against Brentford in the cup with Longstaff in the stands. But Longstaff could be the man to replace Joelinton at Portman Road.

Howe said today: “It is slightly strange with how the booking system works now – so yes, we lose Sean [for Brentford] and then we lose Joelinton [for Ipswich]. But I think that is a position that we have strength in depth with Joe Willock coming back to fitness and Lewis Miley playing again last night, which is good.”
Former AFC Bournemouth manager Howe had been spotted pleading with Joelinton not to pick up a booking in the latter stages against Leicester City. But his yellow card means he will get a rest on Saturday.
The Toon chief had reflected: “It’s bizarre how things work. I’m talking to him from the side, he’s right in front of me and I’m saying ‘Joey, don’t get booked’, and he’s like ‘don’t worry I won’t’. Two minutes later he gets booked. You just couldn’t make it up.”
