Ruben Selles wants to bring Reading forward to Hull City in January
Hull City boss Ruben Selles wants to take Reading’s Harvey Knibbs to the MKM Stadium in January, as per Football Insider.
Hull City recently brought Ruben Selles in as their new boss, hiring him as the permanent replacement for Tim Walter after the German’s dismal stay on Humberside.
The Tigers were in the fight for the play-offs last season but the call to sack Liam Rosenior and replace him with Walter has seen them plummet towards relegation contention.
It is now up to Selles to turn the tide and lead the former Premier League regulars to safety.
The winter transfer window will be an important one for Hull City and Selles will be hoping he’s backed by Acun Ilicali. It will make a welcome change for the former Southampton coach, who had to work with extremely limited resources at Reading.
Now, Football Insider claims he wants one of his former players at the MKM Stadium.
They report that Hull City boss Selles is keen on signing forward Harvey Knibbs from Reading. The 25-year-old, who can play across the front three as well as in attacking midfield, has caught the eye with seven goals and two assists in 19 games for the Royals this season.
Reading want to keep their best players, Knibbs included, but they could be forced to sell.
Ready for the Championship?
Knibbs was an impressive performer for Cambridge United in League One before his move to Reading and having caught the eye with the Royals too, it’s perhaps not a great surprise that he is attracting Championship interest.
A move to Hull City certainly seems feasible too. He’d be linking up with a boss he has found success under in Selles and the Tigers have the money to tempt Reading into a sale.
Seeing out 2025
After sliding towards the Championship relegation picture, Hull City have a lot of work to do in 2025.
However, Selles will be desperate to turn his side’s form around by then with three games left in 2024.
Next up is a home clash against Swansea City before back-to-back games in Lancashire see out the year. Fellow strugglers Preston North End await on Boxing Day before a tie with surprise play-off contenders Blackburn Rovers marks the last game of the calendar year.
