Dodgers World Series Hero Predicted To Cut Ties With Los Angeles For Monster Deal
The Los Angeles Dodgers swung a blockbuster trade for starting pitcher Jack Flaherty at the 2024 MLB trade deadline. After the deal, the Dodgers would go on to win the World Series with Flaherty playing a crucial role in bringing the championship home.
Los Angeles signed Blake Snell to a massive deal worth nearly $200 million this winter and it’s the favorite to land Japanese star Roki Sasaki in free agency. So, Flaherty might be headed out of Los Angeles this winter. FanSided’s Michael Brakebill recently predicted the right-handed starter to cut ties with the Dodgers this winter.
Brakebill predicts Flaherty to sign a contract with the Tigers, the same team that traded him a few months ago. “Backed by solid starting pitching from Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal, the Tigers should be looking to add back to that rotation after sending Flaherty west to the Los Angeles Dodgers,” Brakebill wrote. “After a nice playoff run, not rewarding the Detroit faithful with a move that shows they care about winning would be disrespectful to its fanbase, and many believe the team will still make a splash this winter.
The splash could be Flaherty, who fans will happily run it back with and compete for the AL Central.” Re-signing Flaherty has been one of the moves that I’d love to see the Tigers make. He’s kept a great relationship with many Tigers players, cheering them on from afar as they battled in the postseason.
Flaherty on a four or five-year deal would complement Tarik Skubal incredibly well, much like he did for the first half of 2024.
Dodgers Predicted To Beat Padres In Free Agency Battle For 23-Year-Old Ace
Japanese free agent Roki Sasaki is one of the most intriguing free agents on the market. Unlike the other top free agents, Sasaki isn’t eligible to sign a nine-figure deal. Sasaki’s free agency decision will come down to which team he feels he fits with the best rather than which team is able to cough up the most money.
Still, two of the top teams in the Sasaki sweepstakes are National League West rivals: the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres. FanSided’s Michael Brakebill recently predicted Sasaki would choose the Dodgers over the Padres. “In about a month, Roki Sasaki will be the biggest name on the board and garner the most attention of anybody still on the board.
Sasaki has elite stuff, and at just 23 years old, all 30 teams should be going all in with their presentations to try and woo him to their organization. A West Coast team like the Dodgers makes sense, given their marketability and relationship with Japanese players recently,” Brakebill wrote. “Sasaki may not be the face of the franchise if he signs with L.A., but he will have a fantastic start to his career.
The Dodgers are built to win for many years.” Predicting where Sasaki lands is quite difficult. Each team is on nearly even ground financially. A team like the Dodgers has Japanese connections with Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto, but this takes a bit of the spotlight away from Sasaki.
