Ruben Selles gets encouraging Hull City transfer update with new arrivals close
Hull City know they must have a successful January transfer window to help them secure Championship safety
Hull City head coach Ruben Selles says the struggling Championship club are close to making new additions.
City are in desperate need of help when the transfer window opens on Wednesday. It’s hoped that an early deal or two could be done before the Tigers host Leeds United on January 4.
The Tigers could again be one of the Championship’s busiest clubs during the crucial winter window, especially given their perilous plight.
Having moved out of the relegation zone and a point clear with their first win in 14 games on Saturday, City slumped back into it after losing 1-0 at Preston North End on Boxing Day. The result highlighted a need for quality additions, especially in the final third where Selles’ side again struggled to convert some positive moments.
At least four new signings are expected, while as many as six could be moved out with City in desperate need to free up space to bring players in. Hull Live understands that talks with a Premier League club over a loan arrival are well on the way to being concluded, and it’s hoped that the player will be one of the first new arrivals.
“Well, Jared (Dublin) is working on it,” Selles told Hull Live when asked what progress had been made in getting early deals done. “We have constant communication every day. We know the profiles that we want, and then the club works hard to get those profiles.
“Yes, I think we are close, but again, Jared is making those negotiations and preparing the transfer window for us, and we expect that in the first days of the transfer window, we get one or two players to support us. That’s what we aim for.”
City need to free up space in their squad. But the club are keen to not leave themselves short and move players on without having suitable replacements lined up, as we saw in the summer when Oscar Estupinan was allowed to leave, and the striker arrival failed to materialise leaving them a frontman light.
“It’s going to be a balance between what we can get and what we need to do,” Selles explained. “We know the team has been very big in the loan market, so we will try. We will see what the balance is, and if we need to get somebody out, then we will communicate, and if not, and we can carry on, then we will do it, so there’s a couple of conversations there, but it’s no more than those couple of conversations.”
