Brentford move ahead of Brighton in race for player – Club open to sale after contact made
Brentford have moved ahead of Brighton and Hove Albion for Fiorentina’s Michael Kayode after both made moves earlier this month.
A report last week stated that Brighton and Brentford’s interest in the 20-year-old right-back could quickly become concrete after they both made contact for him.
That same report indicated that Fiorentina are more open to selling the youngster than they were previously, which had prompted both Brighton and Brentford to make their initial moves.
Pedullà now provides an update on the matter, reporting that the latter have now taken a step ahead of the Seagulls.
“In the last few days, we had told you about two clubs with strength on Kayode, both from the Premier: Brentford made a further move towards Brighton. To replace him, the liking for Coulibaly of Parma has been confirmed,” he is quoted as saying.
Whether that prompts Brentford into getting their man in January remains to be seen, but the fact they are now ahead of their Premier League rivals can be seen as a positive on that front.
So can Fiorentina’s previously reported interest in doing a deal, and their identification of a replacement too.
They can all be seen as the bricks being laid out for a January transfer to take place, although perhaps Brighton will have something to say about that.
Young star completed a Brentford medical before joining Spurs instead
One youngster came extremely close to signing for Brentford back in the summer transfer window before Tottenham came in with an offer at the last moment and persuaded him to come to N17.
Youngster has sown his class despite playing out of position
It was in the base of the Leeds midfielder where Archie Gray shone at Leeds United last season, making several Premier League clubs stand up and take notice of his performances.
Yet, he has not played in that role since signing for Tottenham, having been used across the backline instead, partly down the injury issues that Ange Postecoglou‘s men have had to contend with.
The 18-year-old has had some nervy moments at the back, but overall, he has coped well with the challenges he has faced, showing just why many are convinced he has an extremely high ceiling.
Archie Gray almost joined Brentford over Tottenham
The Athletic have now revealed that Gray came very close to becoming a Brentford player back in the summer after the West London club had an offer accepted from Leeds.
The teenager reportedly completed a medical with the Bees and had even picked out a prospective apartment in Richmond in anticipation of his move to the Gtech Community Stadium.
However, Spurs reportedly came calling just before he signed on the dotted line, with the youngster persuaded to join Postecoglou‘s project in North London.
