Wolves to enter fierce transfer race with Everton to sign Premier League midfielder
The January transfer window opens on Wednesday and Wolves will be eyeing moves for key reinforcements.
It’s been an excellent start to life under Vitor Pereira. Wolves 2-2 draw with Tottenham came after they secured victories over Leicester City and Manchester United.
While an unbeaten three-match run has seen Wolves escape the relegation zone, there is still plenty of work to be done in their fight for Premier League survival, and the transfer window can play a huge role.
Wolves want to sign two defenders in the transfer window and the emphasis on getting a new face through the door is greater than ever following the injury to Toti Gomes.
The Old Gold opened talks with Lens centre-back Kevin Danso on Monday, and the 26-year-old could become their first January signing.
However, Danso isn’t the only player taking their fancy ahead of a pivotal month of business.

Wolves aware of Newcastle star Sean Longstaff’s availability ahead of January transfer window
Pereira is focused on capturing a defender or two in January, although signing a midfielder is another position the Portuguese boss could bolster.
Wolves currently have Joao Gomes, Andre, Mario Lemina and Tommy Doyle as fit senior options with Boubacar Traore soon returning from injury.
That being said, there is a possibility Wolves could send Traore on loan and in turn, bring in a more established Premier League talent to the squad.
According to the Daily Mail, the Wanderers are keeping an eye on the availability of Sean Longstaff with Newcastle potentially looking to cash in on him.
The report also claims that Everton and Leicester City are interested in the Englishman who sees his contract at St James’ Park expire in 2026.
What Eddie Howe has said about Longstaff
Wolves midfield is arguably one of Pereira’s strongest areas. A double pivot of Andre and Gomes starting with Lemina and Doyle in reserve shows their quality in abundance.
Longstaff, who has made 201 appearances at Newcastle, would only add exceptional energy and dynamism to that position on the pitch.
The 27-year-old is great at driving forward with the ball and winning possession back but wouldn’t necessarily be an upgrade on any of their current options.
However, if Wolves do sell Traore, perhaps Longstaff would be a solid squad option and someone capable of pushing for a start.
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe’s previous comments on the Englishman suggest he would be a decent signing, praising him after he scored twice in the Carabao Cup semi-final almost two years ago.
“I’m so pleased that he’s got the headlines tonight. The two goals were great finishes,” Howe said via The Independent.
“His all-round performances this season have been excellent. He’s getting the rewards for what I saw last year.
“He didn’t play for me initially but behind the scenes, I saw a player that was really committed to his training, really wanted to improve, so I’m delighted now he’s getting the rewards for that.”
