Mark Pope gives update on Kerr Kriisa; reveals Brandon Garrison is battling injuries
As the Kentucky Wildcats return from their Christmas break, they’re still battling the injury bug as SEC play gets set to begin following Tuesday’s game vs. Brown.
During his Monday call-in show, head coach Mark Pope gave an update on injured point guard Kerr Kriisa, who recently underwent foot surgery and is out indefinitely.
Pope is encouraged about where Kriisa is in his rehab, but there’s no chance he will play this week.
“Kerr is doing great,” said Pope. “He was in rehab today. I actually walked in after practice, and he was working hard in rehab, so I hit Brandon Wells pretty hard about this Saturday, just seeing if I could get him. That was a hard no. So I don’t know when or if he’s coming back, but apparently, he’s definitely not coming back by Saturday.”
The initial timeframe for a return was 3-6 weeks when Kriisa had his injury on December 7th, though it was expected to be closer to six weeks. That would put a potential return toward the middle-to-end of January.
Pope also revealed that sophomore center Brandon Garrison is dealing with some minor injuries that the team is monitoring, but it’s nothing that should sideline the big man.
“Nothing serious, but he’s dealing with a few things,” said Pope.
The good news is Pope is still very excited about the potential of what Garrison can accomplish in a Wildcat uniform.
“Brandon Garrison is incredibly talented,” said Pope. “He’s growing really fast. His ceiling is so high, so it’s been fun for him to kind of learn us and learn how we’re playing and learning how he fits into all of this.”
Let’s hope these minor injuries don’t become major ones for Garrison.
