Brentford vs Arsenal injury news with 11 players out and 4 doubts for Premier League clash

Arsenal could be without four players on Wednesday, whereas Brentford could miss a staggering 11 players

Arsenal make the trip to Brentford on New Year’s Day looking to build on a 1-0 win against Ipswich on Friday.

The Gunners sit third in the Premier League table, nine points behind league leaders Liverpool after 18 games. Mikel Arteta will hope his side can jump to second place as Nottingham Forest have played one extra game.

Arsenal’s squad remains relatively fit, however, they will be without star winger Bukayo Saka who has a hamstring issue. He is one of four Arsenal players that could miss Wednesday’s game. Brentford on the other hand, could be without up to 11 players when they host the Gunners. The Bees sit 12th in the Premier League table, 12 points behind Arsenal. They come off the back of a 0-0 draw against Brighton.

Brentford injury news

Firstly, Joshua Dasilva remains out with a knee injury which he has been recovering from since the start of the season. He will likely return in February. Ethan Pinnock suffered a hamstring injury during Brentford’s EFL Cup quarter-final against Newcastle United. Thomas Frank said: “It might be a longer one, but I don’t know yet.”

Kristoffer Ajer is also likely to be out until February, as he is dealing with an ankle injury that he suffered against Nottingham Forest. Frank said that it is similar to an issue that striker Yoane Wissa suffered earlier in the year. Aaron Hickey and Rico Henry are both still out after suffering major injuries ahead of the season. They both remain out and don’t have a timeline for a return, which is a major blow to Brentford.

Thiago Rodrigues still has an infection to his knee joint. Frank said last week that “it’ll be weeks” before the forward returns to action. Gustavo Gomes will also be out for several weeks as he is dealing with a stress fracture in his lower back. Sepp van den Berg could play on Wednesday. The game against Brighton came too soon for the defender. He is currently being assessed ahead of the game against Arsenal. Frank said: “Sepp is minor, but it’s going to be too short a turnaround for Brighton… let’s see for Arsenal.”

Ben Mee could also return against Arsenal after going off against Brighton with a minor knock. If he doesn’t make Wednesday’s game, Mee will likely be available for Brentford’s next game against Southampton. Mathias Jensen is currently being assessed with a hamstring injury, but he is looking likely to return against Arsenal. Goalkeeper Mark Flekken is also dealing with a hamstring issue, his injury is not expected to keep him out for a long period of time.
