Brandon Aiyuk reportedly requests trade from 49ers

Brandon Aiyuk requests trade from San Francisco 49ers

Ran Carthon should be on the phone

Multiple reports today are saying that Brandon Aiyuk has requested a trade from the San Francisco 49ers. There have been reports all offseason that he wanted a new deal. The 49ers have said they are not going to give him a new deal and are not going to trade him. Now it will be interesting to see if Aiyuk reports when the 9ers open training camp.

Ran Carthon is familiar with the San Francisco front office considering he was there before the Tennessee Titans hired him away. Carthon should be on the phone with them right now. The Titans have a solid receiver room, but they need some youth. Aiyuk is just 26 years old while the Titans’ top three receivers will all be 30 or older at some point during the season (DeAndre Hopkins is 32. Calvin Ridley and Tyler Boyd both turn 30 during the season). Add to that the fact that Hopkins and Boyd both have expiring contracts, and you can see that the Titans are far from set that receiver.

Now, you are going to have to give up a first round pick and a lot of money to get Aiyuk. It makes a lot of sense for the Titans to pull the trigger now because they are going to be looking for a receiver in the first round next year if they don’t add anyone, and they have salary cap room for the next couple of years with Will Levis on his rookie deal.

Could they get a better receiver than Aiyuk in the first round next year? Sure, it’s possible, but Aiyuk is a sure thing. Plus, you hope that the Titans aren’t picking at the top of the 2025 NFL Draft and that would mean the odds of getting a guy with Aiyuk’s skills aren’t very good.

I wouldn’t trade multiple first and second day picks for Aiyuk, but if I were Carthon and I could get him for a first next year plus the mega-deal, I’d pull that trigger in a heartbeat.

Why Titans’ L’Jarius Sneed is such a ‘pain in the a**’

High praise for new Titans corner L’Jarius Sneed

The Tennessee Titans made multiple splashes this offseason, with one of them being the trade and extension of cornerback L’Jarius Sneed from the Kansas City Chiefs, who was recently ranked as the No. 4 cornerback in the NFL, according to a survey of NFL executives by ESPN.

“He’s such a pain in the a**,” an NFC offensive coach said, via Jeremy Fowler of ESPN. “You’re in for a long day when you play him.”

L’Jarius Sneed was a vital piece for the Chiefs on defense in their run to the Super Bowl last season. He made an impact against players like Tyreek Hill, Zay Flowers and Brandon Aiyuk, who are capable of making a mess of defensive game plans. Ultimately, the Chiefs locked Chris Jones into a long-term contract and traded Sneed on the franchise tag to the Titans. The cap space was not there to reasonably keep both players in Kansas City.

The Titans are getting a cornerback who ranks No. 4 in the league only behind Patrick Surtain II, Denzel Ward and Sauce Gardner, according to ESPN’s survey. One coach raved about the versatility of Sneed.

“He can struggle with the quick, shiftier players, but with the bigger body receivers, he can dominate as a physical press corner because of his physicality, and he’s always up for the challenge,” an AFC defensive coach said, via Fowler. “Excels in man or zone. And he has a knack for timely playmaking, and he will come up in run support and tackle.”

This was a huge move for the Titans, and they hope he is a shut down corner for them on the defensive side of the ball this upcoming season.
