Roma Keen on Rennes Striker to Shore Up Frontline
Roma will have a decision to make about their no.9 role in the summer, and director Florent Ghisolfi is contemplating going after Arnaud Kalimuendo to replace Romelu Lukaku. On top of Tammy Abraham, the Giallorossi will welcome back Andrea Belotti after a six-month loan spell at Fiorentina.
According to Tuttomercatoweb, the exec pushed to bring the French striker to Lens a couple of years after he debuted in Ligue 1 with PSG. He recorded 21 goals and 6 assists in 65 matches with Les Sang et Or in consecutive loan spells. Rennes eventually acquired him for €20M in 2022.
The valuation of Kalimuendo has gone up in recent campaigns, so Roma will have to spend a considerable sum to snap him up. He has hit the net 22 times and set up 10 teammates in 78 matches with the Brittany side.
The Giallorossi probably won’t even try to bring back Lukaku from Chelsea. The striker might eventually reunite with Antonio Conte at Napoli. Sardar Azmoun is also unlikely to be retained following a so-so temporary stint. The future of their attack goes through what will happen with Tammy Abraham. He might receive some proposals from the Premier League.
Our Take on Roma and Kalimuendo
They’ll have to sell the Englishman before investing in the position. It’s not the right summer to do as he has looked quite rusty after returning from an ACL tear, which is understandable. Chances are they’ll stand pat up front, probably unwillingly.
