AC Milan in position to beat Roma for best possible Olivier Giroud replacement
Olivier Giroud is headed to MLS after an excellent final season with AC Milan, in which he helped the Rossoneri finish second in the league table above the likes of Juventus.
Now, Milan must replace the iconic Frenchman with the right striker – someone who can score copious goals yet also get the most out of star wingers Rafael Leao and Christian Pulisic.
Lille star Jonathan David is arguably the top target for AC Milan, considering they are about to bring in his coach, Paulo Fonseca, as the replacement for Stefano Pioli.
According to a report from Calciomercato.com, Milan have the advantage above rivals Roma in order to sign David, because the Giallorossi do not have the money to compete with the Rossoneri after failing to qualify for the Champions League on the last day of the season.
Roma are in the market for a new striker after Romelu Lukaku’s poor season on loan from Chelsea; the Saudi Pro League looks like the Belgian star’s next step.
Milan and Roma need more goal-scoring juice to keep the pace with the trio of Lautaro Martinez, Marcus Thuram, and now Mehdi Taremi at Inter Milan.
Jonathan David is a well-rounded striker who came close to scoring 20 Ligue 1 goals this past season. The runway could be clear for Fonseca and the Canadian star to work together in the Milan attack next season.
