Sheffield Wednesday to exercise option in midfielder’s contract
The Star has previously reported that the likes of Jay Glover, Adam Alimi-Adetoro and Luke Cook would be moving on when the current season ends, while others such as Joey Phuthi, Sam Reed and Favour Onukwuli are on the list of those the club is eager to see stick around.
Saido Berahino gives four-word verdict on potential Sheffield Wednesday return
A former Sheffield Wednesday player has ruled out a possible return to S6, despite being out of contract in the summer.
Sheffield Wednesday are certainly on strangers to bringing back former players.
Over the years we’ve seen several players leave Hillsborough, only to come back sooner or later; Sam Hutchinson and Connor Wickham to name a couple of recent examples.
And fans often take to social media to suggest that the Owls should return for certain players who are either available or free agents.
One name who was quite well-liked during his time with Sheffield Wednesday, albeit frustrating at other times, was Saido Berahino.
He’s currently playing for AEL Limassol in Cyprus but he sees his contract expire in the summer.
Saido Berahino quizzed on possible Sheffield Wednesday return
Berahino, now age 30, recently held a Q&A on X, where one fan asked him when he’ll be returning to Sheffield Wednesday.
Berahino responded: “That chapter sadly closed!”
During his time with the Owls, former West Brom and Stoke City attacker Berahino scored nine goals and assisted four more in 36 total appearances.
He was brought to Hillsborough by former West Brom figure Darren Moore in 2021 following Berahino’s fall out at The Hawthorns, and subsequent drop off.
Berahino played for Stoke City and then spent time in Belgium before joining Sheffield Wednesday, later being released at the end of the 2021/22 season.
Last time round, Berahino scored four in 28 league appearances for Limassol, then featuring 10 times in the league season just gone, without scoring.
