QPR brace for troublesome £1.7m Blackburn Rovers transfer raid
QPR could be bracing for transfer interest in striker Lyndon Dykes this summer as reports emerge that the 28-year-old has become a target for Championship rivals Blackburn Rovers.
The Scotland international, who missed out on Euro 2024 action this summer due to an injury just weeks before the tournament, made 43 appearances in all competitions for the R’s last season. Dykes bagged seven goals across those matches as he remained an important, if not prolific, part of the QPR team.
Transfer interest in the experienced forward, who has racked up 155 Championship appearances since moving to Loftus Road in 2019, could come as a worry to the London outfit given a lack of striking options. Michael Frey joined the club in January but managed just one goal for the side
Meanwhile, the promising Sinclair Armstrong has only penned a one-year contract extension with QPR this summer. Despite that deal, it is believed the club could be forced to cash in on the 21-year-old amid Premier League interest, rather than face letting him leave for free next summer.
QPR will be able to call the shots over any transfer interest in Dykes, whose current deal isn’t set to expire until 2026. It’s transfer specialist Alan Nixon who reports of Blackburn Rovers transfer interest, but it’s thought that the second division rivals could struggle to cough up a transfer fee high enough to seduce QPR into selling – there is talk of a potential swap deal, although another name has not been mentioned.
Dykes is valued at €2 million, around £1.7 million, by football database Transfermarkt. Rovers have already seen Semir Telalovic leave this summer and last season’s top scorer, Sammie Szmodics, is hotly tipped to make a move to the Premier League.
Blackburn Rovers, who finished 19th in the division last season, could have any pursuit of Dykes aided by having John Eustace in charge. The manager worked as a coach at Loftus Road when Dykes first joined the club and knows the player well.
