Sheffield Wednesday Boss' Admission On £1 Million Star

Sheffield Wednesday Boss Makes Admission On £1 Million-Rated Star

Sheffield Wednesday head coach Danny Rohl has refused to be dragged into the speculation regarding his side’s reported interest in Rangers forward Scott Wright.

The Owls have been really busy this summer already despite the transfer window opening merely three weeks ago. Having pulled off a miraculous survival in the Championship last season, the South Yorkshire outfit have strengthened their first-team squad, adding Jamal Lowe, Svante Ingelsson, Max Lowe, James Beadle, Ben Hamer, Yan Valery and, most recently, Olaf Kobacki to the ranks.

The board look keen to avoid a repeat of last term’s relegation battle by bolstering a whole host of different positions throughout the squad. However, Wednesday may not be satisfied with their business just yet and have been looking north at a player plying his trade in Scotland.

It has been revealed that Sheffield Wednesday are keeping tabs on Wright’s situation at Scottish giants Rangers as manager Philippe Clement is looking to overhaul his squad this summer and could be open to offloading the 26-year-old.

Wright has 12 months remaining on his current contract at Ibrox so this is Rangers’ last opportunity to gain some cash for the attacker, who boasts a market value of £1 million, according to Transfermarkt.

Owls boss Rohl was quizzed about the club’s interest in the former Aberdeen man on BBC’s Football Heaven but wasn’t so keen to comment on a player who was not contractually his [quotes via Football Scotland]:

“I will not speak about names because it makes no sense. This market goes so quick. We have an idea what we want to have, I have an idea of how I want to play in the new season.

“We know what we have to improve when we look back from last season and then it’s about finding the right pieces to make our squad stronger and stronger because we are very ambitious for the new season.”

Wright didn’t have his best season at Rangers as he made just 29 appearances in all competitions for the club and bagged merely three goals. Clement has opted to play alternative players out wide over the winger so a move away from Glasgow looks quite likely this summer.

The only issue is his price tag. While Wright is certainly good enough for the Championship, have his performances for Rangers in recent seasons, particularly during the 2023/24 campaign, warranted a potential fee of £1 million? Perhaps Sheffield Wednesday could spend this money elsewhere or on a winger who is already proven in England’s second tier.
