Former USC, Ohio State kicker Parker Lewis set on ASU transfer

Former USC and Ohio State kicker Parker Lewis, a product of Scottsdale Saguaro High, announced on Saturday that he will play for Arizona State in 2024.

The Sun Devils have an opening at the position after the departure of Dario Longhetto, who is out of eligibility after he made 11 of 16 field goals last season. Sophomore Ian Hershey and redshirt freshman Carston Kieffer are the team’s returning options at placekicker.

Lewis was the starting kicker for the Trojans in 2020 and 2021 before transferring to Ohio State, where he never kicked field goals or PATs in games in 2022 or 2023. He played in just one game over the last two seasons, kicking touchbacks on both of his opportunities against Western Kentucky last season.

Before his stint at Ohio State, however, Lewis earned honorable mention All-Pac-12 as a true freshman in 2020 and made 46 of 47 PATs and 26 of his 35 field goal attempts over a two-season period that included 9 of 15 from beyond 40 yards.

Lewis hit a career-long field goal of 52 yards against ASU in 2021 and kicked four field goals against Utah in 2020.

At Saguaro, where he played for current ASU tight ends coach Jason Mohns, Lewis was named first-team All-American by MaxPreps and National Football Foundation Luis Zendejas Arizona Senior Placekicker of the Year.

Lewis was ranked as the No. 3 overall kicking prospect in the 2020 class by 247Sports and also No. 3 by Kohl’s Kicking.

Arizona State (9-5; 3-0) seeks its first 4-0 start in conference play since 2007-08 in a Saturday matchup against Colorado (11-3; 2-1) that is scheduled to tip-off at Desert Financial Arena around 6 p.m. (MST) on ESPNU.

Tad Boyle is in his 14th season as Colorado head coach, tied with Oregon’s Dana Altman for the longest tenure among active Pac-12 coaches, with a roster that appears to be among his most talented.
