Jets get one-upped for coaching target as another team swoops in
The New York Jets will have to look elsewhere to fill their running backs coach position.
On Wednesday, the Cleveland Browns swooped in to sign Duce Staley for that role in their organization, according to Cleveland.com. The Jets interviewed him and planned to make Staley an offer, the outlet reported.
The Jets parted ways with Taylor Embree this offseason, SNY reported Tuesday. He held the role since 2021.
According to CBS Sports, Staley visited the Jets facility and had dinner with head coach Robert Saleh last week. Staley was the Panthers’ assistant head coach/running backs in 2023 but was fired in November with head coach Frank Reich and quarterbacks coach Josh McCown. He spent 2021-22 with the Detroit Lions and was part of the Eagles’ coaching staff from 2011-20.
Along with Staley, the Jets were expected to interview Tony Dews, who coached the Tennessee Titans’ tight ends in 2023, per ESPN. It seems that Dews, who was the Titans’ running backs coach from 2018-22, could now be the favorite at the moment.
