Gary O'Neil: Wolves boss says Premier League club cannot spend big money on transfers - BBC Sport

Wolves reach agreement to sign exciting French defender for £4.2m

Wolves fans are hoping for a few additions between now and next Friday’s transfer deadline – and the club now look set to make their fourth new signing of the summer.

Wolves have been quiet on the incoming front over the past few weeks.

Gary O’Neil got three new players through the door early in the summer in the form of Rodrigo Gomes, Jorgen Strand Larsen and Pedro Lima. Tommy Doyle’s loan move was also turned permanent.

But Wolves haven’t been active for weeks, leading to a bit of concern in the fanbase.

There have been plenty of links though, and it was recently reported that Wolves were interested in Bastien Meupiyou.

Late last night, a positive update emerged on Wolves’ pursuit of the exciting young Frenchman

It was claimed last night that Wolves have now reached an agreement with Nantes for the transfer of Bastien Meupiyou.

The club have been in talks with the French club for a couple of weeks, and had seen at least one bid rejected.

But it looks as though Wolves will now get their man.

Last night, top French publication L’Equipe reported a breakthrough, with Wolves and Nantes reaching an agreement over the youngster. He is set to move to Wolves for an initial £4.2 million.

Positive news but Wolves must sign another centre-back

Wolves fans waking up today will be buoyed by this news, with Meupiyou supposedly a player with big potential and someone who has been on the radars of some ‘top-end clubs’.

Wolves were able to land Pedro Lima earlier this summer by selling their project in an honest way and it’s likely the same will have happened with Meupiyou.

Wanderers are carving out a reputation as being a club that develops young talent, and hopefully Meupiyou will turn out to be another gem.

But Wolves must ensure they land a centre-back with experience on top of Meupiyou. Reportedly this is the plan.

Someone like Dara O’Shea would be good and then Wolves could round off a great window by signing another forward – perhaps Carlos Forbs from Ajax.

The proposal Wolves have made to sign Aaron Ramsdale from Arsenal

Wolves are in for a busy week, as Gary O’Neil seeks to strengthen his squad further before the transfer deadline.

Three new players came in at the start of the window in the form of Rodrigo Gomes, Pedro Lima and Jorgen Strand Larsen.

But Wolves fans have been slightly concerned lately with the lack of activity. The objective this season is to secure European football, and some feel that won’t be possible with the current squad.

Wolves are in the market for new players.

There is confidence that a deal for centre-back Bastien Meupiyou will get done.

There have also been links to Aaron Ramsdale in recent days – and a report has now shared details of one bid that has been sent to the Gunners.
