Everton want to sign Celtic sensation Rocco Vata on free transfer

Everton are among the clubs interested in signing Celtic sensation Rocco Vata this summer, according to Harry Watkinson.

Writing on his personal Twitter account (27 March), the TEAMtalk journalist reports that the 18-year-old is on the shortlist at Goodison Park after scoring 12 goals in 15 games for the Hoops’ B side this season.

Vata is a Republic of Ireland youth international and is out of contract at Parkhead at the end of the season, with several European clubs said to be interested in his services also.

One for the future of Everton?

Everton’s model for transfers must change from recent years, and that means more of a priority placed upon signing young players who can be coached and moulded into top players.

With the future of Dominic Calvert-Lewin up in the air, while Beto has struggled to really hit the ground running in his debut season and Youssef Chermiti showing little in his brief opportunities so far, there is room for a new striker.

Vata is largely untested and unproven, but with his contract due to expire there is plenty of room financially for the Toffees to take a gamble and a leap of faith.

Capable of playing across the front line he has good versatility and with 12 goals in 15 games this season there is a clear eye for goal that can be worked on.

Vata would represent a solid signing and would provide a decent look into the future of the club and which direction they are planning on going in with upcoming transfer windows.
