Cardiff City’s chief transfer priorities in next five days and the one that stands out
The Bluebirds have a number of positions to address in the coming days
With the clock ticking ever so close to deadline day, Cardiff City have been unable to welcome more than one fresh face to their ranks across the January transfer window.
Ryotaro Tsunoda represents the Bluebirds’ sole acquisition to date, though the Japanese defender will be spending the rest of the current campaign over at Vincent Tan’s K.V Kortrijk with immediate effect before linking up with the Cardiff squad in the summer
Unsurprisingly, such a slow speed of activity on the transfer front has served to not only frustrate supporters, but also City boss Erol Bulut, who provided the club’s hierarchy with a public ultimatum surrounding his own future amid the state of play in the market following Cardiff’s defeat away at Plymouth last weekend. There is still time, and clubs typically tend to leave their business until the last minute during the winter window. Indeed, Tsunoda makes up one of 35 signings across the whole division as things stand, which speaks volumes of the static pace of this year’s second-tier window and the similar positions that many clubs find themselves in.

However, time is of the essence too, and it will be incredibly precious on deadline day when the typical ensuing frenzy hits.
Cardiff have transfer targets, and have identified positions that require real surgery this month. It must be said, at this stage, the likelihood of all of those positions being addressed has fallen concerningly low and in some areas, it feels as though Cardiff may have to make do with what they have until the summer.
