Deshaun Watson And Kevin Stefanski Don’t Seem To Be On The Same Page After Watson’s Head Shaking Comments
Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson is heading into the third year with the team, and this season needs to be better than the past two, or the Browns will be in serious trouble.
Watson has only made 12 starts since the start of the 2021 season. He missed his entire last season in Houston and only made six starts in each of his first two seasons with the Browns. Coming off a shoulder injury, he needs all the action he can get.
The 28-year-old quarterback didn’t play a snap in their first preseason game against the Green Bay Packers last week, and he also won’t play this week against the Minnesota Vikings.
The Browns are holding practices with the Vikings this week, so Watson will get a lot of run against their defense, but he needs to see a real game before they open up Week One against the Dallas Cowboys in three weeks.
Head coach Kevin Stefanski announced to the media earlier this week that Watson will start the final preseason game at Seattle on Saturday, August 24th.
Even though Stefanski publicly announced that Watson would see preseason action, Watson had no idea that he was supposed to start the final preseason game and stated to the media that he wasn’t aware that he was going to play the final preseason game.
It is a little troubling to hear Watson having no idea he was supposed to start the third preseason game after his head coach announced it a few days ago.
Watson had to have been informed that he would play before Stefanski told the media. Even if Stefanski hadn’t told him it was all over social media, he would’ve seen it there, or a teammate would’ve told him.
The head coach and quarterback have to be on the same page every step of the way, and something so little not knowing about starting in a preseason game shows there are some issues between both parties.
Stefanski and Watson must fix their communication issues quickly, or it will be a long season on the shores of Lake Erie.
