‘Pedal To The Draft’: Bicyclists helping hand the NFL Draft off to Green Bay
GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) – It’s bringing hundreds of thousands of people and nearly $100 million to Wisconsin. The 2025 NFL Draft is getting an official countdown at a unique ceremony next Tuesday.
A draft-themed football will serve as the symbolic torch, being delivered from Michigan to Wisconsin. The journey begins in Milwaukee next Tuesday, where the football will arrive on a ferry from mainland Michigan and then be taken by a group of bicyclists in Milwaukee.
“We say ‘Whatever you’re doing, do it by bike’, it just gets better.”
Peter and Tracy Flucke are two of the cyclists who will pedal north, carrying the football to its final destination at Lambeau Field. The public reveal of a draft countdown clock is set for Tuesday night.
The final leg of the ride before that ceremony is from the Packers’ practice field to the atrium and will include the long-standing training camp tradition of kids and their bikes.
“Just to know we can play a little bit of a role in welcoming the draft to Wisconsin and to Green Bay and we get to do it with something that’s near and dear to our heart which is bicycling, it just really doesn’t get much better than that,” said Peter Flucke.
The Fluckes head the local organization “We Bike Etc”. They have a deep connection to this community and the sport of biking. On Tuesday, they’ll be riding along the Lake Michigan shoreline together on a tandem bike.
“We’re pretty comparable in our skill and ability, but on the tandem, we can really make that thing go,” said Tracy Flucke.
The three-day draft next April is expected to triple the population of Green Bay and the Fluckes are hoping some of those visitors will experience more than just the NFL event.
”I think showcasing that and encouraging people maybe when they come to the draft, staying a little longer, and experience our biking, bringing their bikes or renting a bike and experiencing that part of Wisconsin,” said Tracy Flucke.
The unveiling of the countdown clock is open to the public and will start around 6:30 p.m. when the bicyclists arrive on Tuesday.
