Everton transfer news as update emerges on Ross Barkley amid Newcastle, Aston Villa links

Aston Villa appear to have won the race to sign Everton and Newcastle target Ross Barkley, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The journalist took to Twitter on 3 June to claim that the Villans had reached a verbal agreement with Luton Town for a £5million transfer.

Newcastle World reported on 3 June that the Magpies and the Toffees were linked with the 30-year-old after he reignited his career at Luton Town.

Everton appear to have dodged Ross Barkley transfer bullet

It’s beneficial for the Toffees that they didn’t re-sign Barkley as he may not have significantly strengthened their first team.

His role at Luton, which involved carrying the ball forward with purpose, could be less effective in a different tactical setup.

Moreover, Everton could allocate the funds and resources intended for Barkley to other areas of need, such as strengthening their defence or finding a more consistent goal scorer.

The 30-year-old’s potential wage demands could also have strained the club’s financial resources, limiting their flexibility in the transfer market.

By avoiding this, the Toffees can focus on building a more balanced and give Sean Dyche the signings he wants.

While a reunion could’ve been romantic, the club need to be pragmatic and first the ownership situation will likely need to be sorted out.

In other Everton news, a winner has been named in the Toffees and Manchester United race to sign an upcoming “star”.
