‘Severe pain’ – Scott Twine, Kal Naismith, Matty James and George Tanner injury latest pre-Ipswich Town
Liam Manning expects Scott Twine back in Bristol City training on Monday and says Matty James is receiving injections to relieve ‘severe’ Achilles pain.
Twine netted on his sole appearance for City against Watford at the start of the year and has been sidelined with a quad problem ever since.
The Burnley loanee is due back in training imminently but is set to miss the Ipswich Town match, while veteran James has been absent for City’s last two matches.
His manager gave an update on the 32-year-olds condition: “He’s had an injection today (Saturday) on his Achilles, the scan looked okay but he had some severe pain and given his history we have to be sensible.
“He’ll have another set of injections at the start of next week and hopefully he responds to that, we have to see how he responds.”
George Tanner, who was also absent against Cardiff City, will miss the clash against the Tractor Boys as well.
“George will hopefully be back for next weekend (v Swansea), he picked up a knock against QPR when someone fell on his knee and he sprained his MCL,” Manning said.
Another member who wasn’t involved against the Bluebirds was Kal Naismith, despite Manning suggesting in his pre-Cardiff press conference that the Scot would be involved in some capacity.
However, the manager said that Naismith’s omission from the matchday squad was just precautionary.
“I expect him back,” he said. “Kal trained in a session on Tuesday but then felt his calf a little bit, we scanned it and there was nothing wrong, just more of a fatigue thing, what you can’t do is throw him in and risk him.”
