Ivan Toney to pocket staggering £84m in wages after completing Al-Ahli transfer?
Ivan Toney will reportedly earn around £84m after completing his transfer to Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli from Brentford.
The 28-year-old striker was the subject of much speculation during the summer transfer window after entering the final year of his contract with the Bees.
Toney was tipped to stay in the Premier League, with clubs including Chelsea and Arsenal both credited with an interest in his services.
However, the England international opted to move to the Middle East and join Al-Ahli after they agreed to sign him from Brentford for £40m.
Toney has put pen to paper on a four-year contract with the Royals until the summer of 2028 and is now one of England’s highest-paid players at club level
Toney to earn over £400k per week at Al-Ahli
According to The Mirror, Toney’s four-year contract is worth a staggering £403,000 per week including bonuses, which is the equivalent of £800,000-a-week before tax in the UK.
The striker is said to be pocketing more than 13 times the £36,000-a-week salary he was earning at Brentford, where he scored 72 goals in 141 appearances over a four-year period.
Toney, who represented England at Euro 2024, chipped in with four goals in 17 Premier League games last season following his return from an eight-month ban for breaking FA betting rules.
Not only does Toney’s transfer represent a club-record sale for Brentford, it has also seen his former club Peterborough United benefit financially, as they will allegedly earn around £4m due to a sell-on clause agreed following his move from London Road to Brentford in 2020.
Toney “really happy” after joining Al-Ahli
Toney finalised his transfer to Al-Ahli last Friday evening after passing a medical in London and said his goodbyes to Brentford the following day after attending their 3-0 home win over Southampton.
The striker has since landed in Saudi Arabia and has already linked up with his new teammates in training, including Riyad Mahrez, Roberto Firmino, Edouard Mendy, Gabri Veiga and Franck Kessie.
“Thank you for the incredible welcome in Jeddah”, Toney posted on Instagram. “I’m really happy to be here and looking forward to making my debut with Al-Ahli. Inshallah we will have a great season!”
Toney could make his debut for Al-Ahli when they face Cristiano Ronaldo‘s Al-Nassr away from home in the Saudi Pro League on Friday.
