Tottenham now want to sign ‘incredible’ £80m Wolves midfielder ‘very soon

Tottenham Hotspur are already eyeing a third signing in this transfer window and have set their sights on Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes now.

Ange Postecoglou‘s side have already brought in Timo Werner on loan from RB Leipzig and Radu Dragusin from Genoa on a permanent deal. The focus now is on their midfield, and Gomes is reportedly a target.

Tottenham want to sign Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes

Tottenham went into the January transfer window with three positions in mind – a versatile attacker, a backup centre-back and a midfielder.

Who is Joao Gomes? Things to know about the exciting Brazilian midfielder

Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin have checked the first two boxes, and if a report from Fla Web in Brazil is to be believed, Spurs have an eye on a new midfielder.

It has been claimed that Wolves‘ Joao Gomes is on Tottenham’s radar now, and Ange Postecoglou’s side have apparently signalled that they will make a bid to sign him ‘very soon’.

Wolves only signed the Brazilian last year. He cost them £15 million from Flamengo (The Athletic), and the report claims they have now made it clear they will not let him leave for anything under £30 million.

Gomes’ current contract at Wolves does not expire until the summer of 2028. The Wanderers have an option to extend that by another year as well.

That puts them in a very strong position in potential transfer negotiations.

Gomes is an incredible talent

Tottenham target Joao Gomes was very highly rated back home in Brazil, and he has shown his brilliant quality since joining Wolves as well.

The 22-year-old has missed just two games all season in the Premier League. He is one of the first names on the team sheet, and Gary O’Neil has even described him as ‘incredible’ for his performance alongside Mario Lemina in the middle of the park a few weeks ago (Express&Star).

Gomes was sent off against Brentford in the FA Cup last week, and he will serve a suspension. That means he won’t play again this month, which opens the door for him to focus on a potential transfer if an offer does come in.

That could be good news for Tottenham if they really want him, but whether Wolves will be ready to let him go in the middle of the season is anyone’s guess.
